Charter School Start-Up petition timeline

  1.  A letter of intent must be submitted to the Colquitt County School District, attn:  Superintendent, by July 1st for the upcoming fiscal year.  
  2. A final charter petition must be submitted to the Colquitt County Board of Education and to the Office of Charter Schools by January 1st.  Any petition received after January 1st will be considered for the proceeding fiscal year.
  3. The final charter petition will be reviewed by the Colquitt County Board of Education and a vote to approve or deny will occur at the February Regular Board Meeting.  Petitioners will be notified of approval or denial by March 1st and approved petitions will be sent to the State Board of Education and the Office of Charter Schools by March 5th.  
  4. An approved charter school should begin serving students no later than August 1st of the proceeding fiscal year.

Charter Petition Timeline for the 2027-28 School Year
  • July 1, 2026 – Letter of Intent due
  • January 1, 2027 – Final Petition Submission due
  • January/February 2027 – CCBOE review
  • February 22, 2027 – CCBOE Regular Board Meeting to approve or deny final petition
  • March 1, 2027 – Notification of approval or denial to petitioner
  • March 5, 2027 – Approved petitions will be sent to the State Board of Education and the Office of Charter Schools
  • Charter School Should begin serving students no later than August 5, 2027
