Course I
The goal of this course is to provide an understanding and application of social, ethical, and human issues related to technology. The course will also provide an introduction to computer technology, decision-making, productivity, communications, and problem-solving skills. Areas of instruction include computer applications and integration of word processing, desktop publishing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software as well as use of emerging technologies. In this course, high school students can acquire skills required to create, edit, and publish industry appropriate documents. Areas of study will also include oral and written communications and information research for reporting purposes. Competencies for the co-curricular student organization, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), are integral components of both the core employability skills standards and technical skill standards.

Course II

Areas of instruction include advanced computer applications and integration of word processing, desktop publishing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software, as well as the use of emerging technologies. Business Data Applications (Microsoft Excel)
Fall Semester
Microsoft Excel is a software program that is used to analyze numbers with spreadsheets and charts, as well as perform other tasks such as sorting data. It provides powerful features that allow the student to produce professional worksheets and reports. All lessons will relate to everyday spreadsheet tasks encountered in the business environment. The standard of error-free copy shall be stressed.

Business Data Applications (Microsoft Access)
Spring Semester
Microsoft Access is a database program used to organize, store, manipulate, and retrieve important facts and figures. It simplifies the mechanics of producing professional-looking data entry screens and reports. Databases are used to organize inventory, customer lists, transactions, and other business or personal data. The course places emphasis upon the development of strong foundational skills in the areas of applications and concepts in order to prepare the student for working with databases in the career environment. The development of these skills will be evaluated by the student's ability to apply these concepts in a simulated business atmosphere.

HTML, Dreamweaver, and Front Page
Fundamentals of Web Design is the second course in the Interactive Media Career Pathway. This course will provide students with essential web page planning and development skills. Students will learn to write code manually and use graphical authoring tools. Students will also learn to work with web page layout and graphical elements, including images, hyperlinks, tables, forms, and frames. Mastery of these standards through project-based learning and leadership development activities of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) will help prepare students with a competitive edge for the global marketplace.

The goal of this course is to provide students with the study of advanced topics in web design. Upon completion of this course, students should have a thorough knowledge of all areas of web design. Topics include the web development process, advanced layout and design features, advanced study of scripting languages, site development with HTML editors, and web servers and databases. This course also prepares students to take the CIW Associate Design Specialist Certification.

Business Communication and Presentation (PowerPoint and other Media)
The goal of this course is to provide students with an understanding of communication skills and current and upcoming technology and its impact personally and professionally. Competency will be developed in the areas of oral and written communication, interpersonal skills, and the use of current technology. Competencies in the co-curricular student organization, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), are integral components of both the core employability skills standards and the technical skill standards.

Principles of Accounting I and II
These courses provide a thorough knowledge in the basic accounting procedures and concepts used to operate a business. The accounting procedures presented will also serve as a sound background for employment in office jobs and preparation for studying business courses in college. An introduction to computerized accounting is also included utilizing Peachtree Accounting software.
Prerequisites: None for Accounting I
This course is designed to introduce students to the banking and savings industry. Units will include opening and maintaining personal checking accounts, savings accounts, personal loans for homes and cars, and personal budgeting. Other topics will cover personal tax preparation and opportunities in the stocks and bonds area.

Business Essentials is a foundations course for the Small Business Development Career Pathway. It is an introductory course for those who plan to own and operate their own businesses. The course will help students build a strong knowledge base and develop management skills as they study forms of business ownership, functions of management, budgeting and finance, technology, communications, legislation, leadership and teamwork, marketing, and economics. Mastery of these standards through project-based learning and leadership development activities of the Career and Technical Student Organizations will help prepare students with a competitive edge for the global marketplace.

The goal of this course is to provide students with a project-based approach to prepare them for careers in administrative information technology. The course will cover general office skills and procedures, attitudes and work habits, professional dress, career acquisition skills, and information processing. Competencies will be developed in finance and accounting as well as communication. Personal leadership and management skills will be developed and practiced throughout the course.
