Colquitt County High School Junior Jack Kirksey Selected for Prestigious Georgia Governor’s Honors Program

MOULTRIE, GA – [April 25, 2025] — Colquitt County High School is proud to announce that junior Jack Kirksey has been selected to participate in the 2025 Georgia Governor’s Honors Program (GHP), one of the most prestigious academic summer programs in the state.

The Georgia Governor’s Honors Program is a four-week residential summer experience for rising juniors and seniors who demonstrate exceptional ability and interest in a specific area of study. This year’s program will take place June 15 through July 12, 2025, on the campus of Georgia Southern University.

Jack was chosen for his outstanding talent in Communicative Arts, emerging from a highly competitive pool of applicants from across the state. More than 1,500 students were granted final interviews, and only 600 were selected for the program. To earn a place, students must go through a rigorous application and interview process, demonstrating both knowledge and passion in their chosen field.

"I am thrilled to be able to participate in an environment filled with Georgia's best and brightest. The opportunity to pursue my aptitudes and interests amongst other students who are academically motivated and share a similar passion for learning is extremely exciting. Hopefully, this experience can give me insight into my future goals and aspirations as I enter my senior year and college decisions,” said Jack.

GHP provides students with in-depth academic instruction during the day, complemented by a variety of social and learning activities in the evenings. The program is designed to enrich students beyond the traditional classroom setting, creating a community of Georgia’s most gifted and driven learners. It is fully funded by the state of Georgia, including meals and housing.

“Jack is the embodiment of what it means to be a Packer—driven, respectful, and committed to excellence,” said Chris Merritt, Principal of Colquitt County High School. “As an 11th grade student enrolled in the most rigorous coursework available, he leads not only with intellect but with integrity and character. His selection for the Georgia Governor’s Honors Program is a testament to his hard work and high standards. Jack exemplifies the purpose of GHP by embracing the academic, cultural, and social enrichment needed to become a global thinker, innovator, and leader of tomorrow. We are proud to have him represent Colquitt County High School on such a distinguished platform.”

Jack will join peers from across Georgia this summer, where he will have the opportunity to sharpen his skills in Communicative Arts under the guidance of expert educators and alongside fellow students who share his passion for creative and analytical expression.

Please join us in congratulating Jack Kirksey on this remarkable honor!
