Schools Recognized for “Beating the Odds”

Congratulations - schools recognized for beating the odds

MOULTRIE, GEORGIA – July 7, 2026- The Colquitt County School District is proud to announce that seven schools have been officially designated as "Beating the Odds" schools by the Governor’s Office of Education and Workforce Strategy (formerly the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement).

The "Beating the Odds" analysis is a statistical comparison that evaluates whether a school’s students performed better on state assessments than schools with similar demographics across Georgia. The calculation factors in student characteristics such as race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, English language proficiency, and disability status. This creates a fair, apples-to-apples comparison to show if a school is genuinely outperforming expectations.

The seven Colquitt County schools recognized for exceeding academic performance expectations and beating the odds in 2025 are:

  • C.A. Gray Junior High School
  • Doerun Elementary School
  • Funston Elementary School
  • Norman Park Elementary School
  • Okapilco Elementary School
  • Stringfellow Elementary School
  • Willie J. Williams Middle School

"We are incredibly proud of the hard work, dedication, and resilience demonstrated by our students, teachers, and staff," said Dan Chappuis, Superintendent. "Earning a 'Beating the Odds' designation is a testament to our district's commitment to academic excellence and ensuring that every child—regardless of background or circumstance—receives a high-quality education that sets them up for future success."

The remaining schools within the district also achieved strong marks, placing "Within Expected Range" for academic performance, underscoring a system-wide trend of growth and stability.
