MOULTRIE, GEORGIA – May 21, 2026- Funston Elementary School has been recognized by the Governor's Office of Student Achievement (GOSA) as a 2025 Single Statewide Accountability System (SSAS) Greatest Gains Silver Award winner.
The Greatest Gains award is part of Georgia's prestigious SSAS honors, which recognize schools that exhibit high academic performance or significant student growth. The "Silver" designation places Funston Elementary in the top tier of schools across the state, specifically landing in the 95th to 96th percentile for student growth.
"Receiving the Greatest Gains Silver Award is an incredible honor and a reflection of the hard work, dedication, and heart of our students, teachers, staff, and families," shared Principal Kati Strickland. "Our team is deeply committed to ensuring every child grows each year academically, and this recognition confirms that the support, instruction, and relationships we build daily are making a lasting impact. We are proud of our students for the tremendous growth they have shown and excited to continue striving for excellence together."
The award is calculated based on the Progress component of the College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI). To determine the 2025 winners, GOSA analyzed three-year averages of student growth scores. Funston Elementary demonstrated remarkable consistency and upward momentum over the last three years, culminating in a near-perfect progress score this past year:
- 2023 Progress Score: 96.1
- 2024 Progress Score: 95.3
- 2025 Progress Score: 98.9
The 2025 score of 98.9 highlights a period of significant achievement, ensuring that Funston students are not only meeting state standards but are exceeding growth expectations at one of the highest rates in Georgia.
Superintendent Dan Chappuis shared, "We are incredibly proud of the students, faculty, and staff of Funston Elementary for this outstanding accomplishment. This award reflects our teachers' long-term commitment to excellence in learning and highlights the remarkable achievement and growth of our students."
The SSAS awards were developed to identify schools that are making the greatest strides in improving student achievement. As a Silver winner, Funston Elementary will be recognized by the state for its commitment to academic excellence and for its success in advancing students, regardless of their starting point.
