Teacher of the Year 2022-2023

Congratulations to Mr. Brown for being voted our 2022-2023 Teacher of the Year!

Gregory Ryan Brown currently teaches fourth grade math. Brown holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Valdosta State University.  Brown began his teaching career as a Special Education teacher in 2006.  He holds multiple certifications in Special Education as well as certifications in Elementary Education and Middle Grades Social Science.  Brown has served as the lead teacher in fourth grade for the last eight years and is a member of the Guiding Coalition at Cox Elementary.  He has also served as a teacher member of the School Governance Team and has served as a mentor teacher for several new colleagues.   Away from the classroom, Brown is an active member of his church, an avid deer hunter, and a U9 soccer coach.  His teaching style incorporates two key values.  The first is his mindset of perseverance.  Brown believes that no challenge is too great and failure is simply a stepping stone to ultimate success.  Setbacks are a given, but each individual can grow and excel given a positive growth mindset.  The second is empathy.  Brown seeks to build positive relationships with his students and all stakeholders in the academic community.  While every person has a different set of core values, it is essential that teachers seek to understand the core values of their students and families.  In this manner, teachers can understand how to build a love of learning for each student and reveal the value of becoming a lifelong learner.
