Robots and coding and drones, oh my!

This past Friday several students in Dr. Colls's Engineering classes participated in a technology demonstration which highlighted different topics they have studied.

The projects ranged from robots (VEX Rescue Bot, Claw Bot, Base Bot, Speed Build, Stack Bot), drones (HD170, Tello, DJI, & Trydrone), Mega Arm, Solar Spring Car, Tinkercad coding and printing, Scratch coding, and a Smart Car.

There were five stations for each of the steps in the Engineering Design Process (EDP) aligned with the Technical Skills (TS).

Each student only had one week to prepare, design, and build their projects. Each student then discussed how they completed the project and demonstrated how it worked.

Dr. Colls writes, “It was truly an amazing event to see. The exceeded all my expectations. I am very proud of what they accomplished in a short period of time. Thank you very much to the following students who dedicated so much time and effort to make this technology demonstration a success:”

Tina Nguyen, Yohana Perez-Gutierrez, Liza Hernandez, Ava Lozano, Connor Hickey, Carlos Ricardo-Carranca, Angel Roque-Arroyo, Angel Zapote-Lorenzo, Jamed Rodriguez, Kaje Ogletree, Oreon Sweet, Sandra Perez, Brayan Rubio, Eric Arias, David Alonso-Sebastian, Alexander Kane, Seth Dorsey,Yandel Hernandez, Josie Soukone, Maddox Sanchez, Het Patel, Micah Griffin, Jace Lawson, Zane Bullard, Taylor Newsome, CEO, SkyView AG Services, and to those that were able to attend: Dr. Smith, Mr. Horne, Mrs. Dawson, Mrs. Heidelberg, Melanie Turner, Michael Lardy, Mr. Dixon, and Dr. Vicki Colls.

"Also, a big ‘thank you’ to Ms. Turner and Mr. Lardy for their assistance in media set-up and Taylor Newsome, CEO of SkyView AG Services, LLC., who completed the demonstration by teaching us about the different parts and capabilities of his drone. Students and staff alike enjoyed watching Mr. Newsome fly the drone around the football field."
