6th Annual Edible Book Fair

C. A. Gray Jr. High School held its 6th annual Edible Book Fair on Thursday, February 23rd with 38 projects created by 46 students and 15 staff members. The mission was to produce an edible representation of any book: something you can really sink your teeth into. The judged categories included Classics, Children’s Books, Reader’s Choice, and - new this year - Black History. Our media specialist judges included Lori Linnenkohl from Hamilton and Susie Strange from R. B. Wright.

Entries ranged from elaborate cake and fondant designs to clever and creative food arrangements. A huge thank you goes out to Mrs. Michelle Weeks at the Walmart bakery for providing cake domes to our students and business director Kelsey Selph from Chic-fil-A for donating gift cards for our awards ceremony; the two also served as judges.

In addition to the judged categories, People’s Choice awards were also given. Students in 1st-5th periods had the opportunity to come down and vote for their favorite entry during their ELA classes. Winning students and staff were awarded ribbons and specially-made trophies. Winners are listed below, and tons of pictures are available on our Facebook page!
