Important Information from Georgia's Professional Standards Commission
The Professional Standards Commission determines your eligibility for a certificate upgrade. The first criteria is that you must have a renewable professional certificate. If you hold an Induction Level Pathway 4 Certificate, your certificate cannot be upgraded. Please note: maintaining your certificate is your professional responsibility. Be sure your certificate is current and is in the field required for your job assignment. Keep a record of all correspondence with the Professional Standards Commission and of all documents related to certification.
To determine if you are eligible for an upgrade, you must use the PSC's Certificate Upgrade Advisor available through your My PSC account. If you are interested in a degree that is not listed through the Advisor, you should complete the Upgrade Degree Approval Form and submit it to the PSC via email. Instructions for doing this are on the form.
To apply for a certificate upgrade, you must submit to Human Resources a completed Application for Certification form (www.gapsc.com), a Verification of Lawful Presence and an official transcript showing your degree completion date. Any pay increase is determined by the awarding of your certificate by the PSC and is effective from the upgrade issue date on your certificate.
Effective July 1, 2010 the rules changed regarding leadership certification and your eligibility for a pay increase on completing a leadership degree. You can learn more about upgrades based on Advanced Leadership Degrees through the GAPSC website.
